Wednesday’s D2, D3 women’s roundup: West Chester cruises past Kutztown in PSAC opener

Four players registered hat tricks as sixth-ranked West Chester cruised to a 25-6 victory over PSAC East rival Kutztown in its women’s lacrosse home opener Wednesday afternoon at Vonnie Gros Field.

West Chester (3-0, 1-0 PSAC East) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first six minutes of the game to take control early over visiting Kutztown (0-3, 0-1).

Devon Lotkowski (Bishop Shanahan) scored four goals in the second half and assisted on another for five points in the game. Nicole Pyle (Henderson), Jackie Hoover (Cheltenham), and Nicole Haines (Great Valley) each added three goals. Shannon Hayes had two goals and four assists for a total of six points.

Kelly Martin (2-0) started and earned the win. She did not have to make a save in the first half. MacKenzie O’Keefe (Downingtown East) registered one save in the second half.

Kelsey McGoldrick (Haverford High) added four points on the strength of one goal and three assists. Lindsey Crits (Boyertown) and Janice Kinney (Owen J. Roberts) each scored twice for Kutztown.

Bloomsburg 13, East Stroudsburg 5

Allie Kakareka (Spring-Ford) tallied three goals and Lyndsey Babilon (Boyertown) added three while Shelby Iezzi (Owen J. Roberts) made 20 saves to lead the Huskies (3-1) to a win in their PSAC opener.

Christine Bradley (Pottstown) scored twice for ESU (2-1, 0-1).

Lock Haven 18, Gannon 6

Allison Berger (Springfield-Montco) had four goals and two assists and Kate Smyth (Pennsbury) added two goals and two assists to pace the No. 2 Eagles (3-0, 1-0) in the PSAC West.

Mercy College 15, Ramapo 14

Freshman goalie Lauren Mateja (Upper Merion) made 11 saves to lift the Mustangs (3-1) to victory.

New Haven 13, Franklin Pierce 7

Sarah Magnone (Villa Joseph Marie) had three goals and an assist to pace No. 7 New Haven (3-0).

Shippensburg 12, Millersville 5

Junior Karen Schnurr (Central Bucks South) scored four goals, picked up four groundballs and won four draw controls for Shippensburg (2-0) in its PSAC opener. Sophomore keeper Meghan Kearney (Springfield-Delco) finished with 12 saved. The win gave first-year coach coach Mia Gambone (Pottsgrove) a win over her alma mater.

Brittney Long (Henderson) had two goals and an assist for Millersville (1-2).

Division III
Haverford College 9, Drew 7

The Fords improved to 6-0 as Jen Schmidt notched three goals and Nora Proops and Perrin Downing added two each.
