No. 4 Penn had its trademark defense back on Wednesday, holding visiting Hofstra to just five goals. The part that made the Quakers hold their breath was the fact that Penn’s offense only managed six scores of its own.

However, in the end Penn’s defense won out, causing Hofstra to commit a foul in the attacking zone with 1:13 to play, allowing the Quakers to run out the clock and escape with a 6-5 win.

The Quakers improve to 3-1 on the season while Hofstra falls to 3-2.

The Quakers opened the second half with three goals to take a 6-1 lead. Hofstra then scored the next four goals, drawing within one on a tally by Jill maier with six minutes to play.

Courtney Lubbe (Council Rock North) led Penn with two goals and an assists while Giulia Giordano and Ali DeLuca each had a goal and two assists. Carolyn Pollard and Erin Brennan each scored once and Maddie Poplawski (Springfield-Delco) had two caused turnovers and one draw control while Barb Seaman led the defense with two caused turnovers.

Hofstra freshman Emily Corzel led the Pride defense with a caused turnover and a groundball.
