Yardley’s James Borda (Notre Dame, NJ) commits to Division III Ohio Wesleyan

Notre Dame (N.J.) High senior attack James Borda, of Yardley, has committed to play Division III lacrosse at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio.

Borda, a second-team All-Colonial Valley Conference selection last year, had 32 goals and 32 assits for the Fighting Irish, who went 4-2 in the league and 12-7 overall. He also played for Twist Black’s club team in the summer.

“First of all, I was looking for a school that has my major,” said Borda, who plans to pursue a degree in physical education and coaching. “It was kind of hard to find a school that had both of those things.”

Under coach Sean Ryan, the Battling Bishops went 4-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference and 10-5 overall last year in advancing to first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.

“Coach (Ryan) saw me at 205 camp, and I went for a visit in October and just loved the school,” said Borda, who also considered Roanoke, Scranton, Marywood, McDaniel and West Point. “In addition to all that, the fact that they made the NCAA Tournament appealed to me.”

Borda is a triplet; sister Ally has signed with Division I Siena College and brother brother Joey is still considering several colleges. All are lacrosse standouts for the Fighting Irish.

An outstanding swimmer and member of the school’s justice club, Borda was named Notre Dame’s MVP in lacrosse last year.

“We should be a lot better,” he said. “Last year we were a young team, primarily juniors and sophomores, and I think everyone moving up in age will make a huge difference.”
