Kirah Miles George, who starred at the University of Maryland, has been promoted to the job as head girls’ lacrosse coach at Agnes Irwin School, her alma mater, athletic director Kathy Shortelle has announced.

Miles George replaces Amy Orcutt, who left the job in December to take the head post at Conestoga.

Miles George, a member of the Class of 2001, was the JV coach at Agnes Irwin the past three years. She was a two-year starter as a goalie at Maryland, helping the Terrapins reach the NCAA playoffs each year and post an overall record of 27-12. She was an All-Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament pick her junior year.

“The most important and rewarding part of coaching to me is when an individual or a team realizes their full potential,” Miles George said. “To me, success has more meaning than just a winning season. As much as I hope that we do have a winning season, I truly believe it will be determined by commitment level and work ethic of our girls individually and together.”

Miles George has coached at clinics sponsored by the University of Maryland and also has done personal coaching on an individual basis.

“We have girls of all different levels and ages and I want to take the approach of teaching the game of lacrosse as well as teaching life lessons that they can use throughout their life,” Miles George said, noting she picked up some of her ideas from Positive Coaching Alliance training. “These girls have so much on their plate and and it’s really important o help them build self-esteem.

“I want them to advocate for themselves. They have so much talent and if they believe in themselves, they’ll believe that a lot more.”

Miles George has completed her varsity staff by hiring assistants Catherine Komlo and George Chou.

While at Agnes Irwin, Miles George was a 3-year varsity lacrosse starter and was captain of the lacrosse, soccer and volleyball teams. She also was the White Blazer winner (top athlete in the school) and head of the Agnes Irwin Athletic Association.

At Maryland, Miles George played in 51 games and posted 339 saves for a save percentage of .511 and a goals against average of 8.41.
