Malvern Prep senior attackman Scott Hueber has committed to play Division III lacrosse at Ursinus College.
Hueber was a member of a Friars team that tied with Haverford School for the Inter-Ac League championship last year.
Hueber plans to major in Business and Economics at Ursinus. He said he liked the program being run by Jamie Steele, who enters his first full year as head coach after being hired as an interim coach early in the 2009 season.
“The combination major of Business and Economics really interested me,” Hueber said. “I really liked the school. I also liked Muhlenberg and Randolph Macon, but in the end the deal breaker was coach Steele. I feel he has the program is on the rise.”
Hueber, who plays for the Duke’s Lacrosse Club, also is optimistic about Malvern Prep’s fortunes for 2010. He said the team has had a smooth transition to new head coach Dan Keating and his top assistant, brother Mike Keating. Dan Keating served one year as an assistant to former coach John McEvoy, who retired from coaching after the season.
“We’re working hard in the weight room and we hope to improve in every aspect of the game,” Hueber said. “We’re really excited. People are hyping up Haverford because they have a lot of guys committed. But we can make some serious noise.”
