From Press Releases

University of Delaware men’s lacrosse head coach Bob Shillinglaw has announced the selection of five players who will serve as co-captains for the 2010 season.

The group features junior midfielder Kevin Kaminski (Strath Haven) as well as junior goalkeeper Noah Fossner, junior defenseman Pat Dowling, senior midfielder Martin Cahill and senior attackman Curtis Dickson. Fossner and Cahill will serve as captains for the second straight year.

Kaminski, from Wallingford, earned second team All-CAA laurels in 2009 when he ranked third on the team with 15 goals and fourth on the squad with 18 points. He also recorded 29 groundballs.

Fossner, from Niskayuna, N.Y. (Niskayuna HS), will begin his second season as the Blue Hens’ starting goalkeeper this spring after a solid sophomore campaign in 2009. He started all 15 games last spring and posted a 9.37 goals against average and a .566 save percentage. He led the Colonial Athletic Association in saves per game (12.27) and ranked No. 18 in the NCAA in save pct.

Dickson, from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia (Riverside HS), is a two-time first team All-CAA pick and 2008 All-American who returns as one of the top offensive forces in the nation. A candidate for the Tewaaraton Trophy as the top player in college lacrosse, Dickson tallied 45 points a year ago when he scored 33 goals and dished out 12 assists. He led the CAA and ranked No. 23 in the nation in goals per game last season and enters the 2010 season having scored a goal in a UD record 30 straight games.

Cahill, from Malden, Mass. (The Governor’s Academy), is a two-time All-CAA selection who anchors the Blue Hen midfield unit. He was Delaware’s second leading scorer a year ago with 20 goals and four assists and owns 58 career goals.

Dowling, from Fairfield, Conn. (Fairfield Ludlowe HS), earned first team All-CAA honors a year ago when he set a school record for caused turnovers in a season (22) and career (40). He also recorded 29 groundballs for the Blue Hens.

The Blue Hens, looking to improve upon last season’s 5-10 overall mark, are one of four CAA squads listed in the pre-season LaxNews.com Top 25 with a No. 23 ranking and were the highest ranked team coming off a sub .500 record.

Delaware will open the 2010 season Feb. 6 at Saint Joseph’s with the home opener set for Feb. 13 against Presbyterian.
