Archbishop Carroll senior goalie Cuzzupe signs National Letter of Intent to play at D2 Queens University

Archbishop Carroll senior goaltender Jason Cuzzupe has signed a National Letter of Intent to play Division II lacrosse at Queens University (N.C.).

Cuzzupe was a first-team All-Catholic League Southern Division pick last year for the Patriots, who qualified for the Catholic League playoffs.

Queens, located in Charlotte, is a member of Conference Carolinas. Last year the Royals went 8-6, (4-1 in the conference) and fell to Limestone, 12-10, in the league championship game.

“Coach (Jim) Fritz is a really good guy and I fell in love with the campus,” said Cuzzupe, who plays club lacrosse for Black Bear of Chester County and also competed for Metro Philly in the 2009 Keystone State Games. “The program is definitely on the rise. With their recruits and a new stadium being built, everything is awesome.”

Cuzzupe, an Honor Roll student who is interested in studying Communications, said he learned about Queens by researching lacrosse programs through LaxPower and hearing about the school from family that live in Charlotte.

“When I was going through the recruiting process going into my junior year, I went through the whole list of schools on LaxPower,” he said. “I made a video and started sending out letters.

“Some family live in Charlotte and they told me to look at this Division II school.”

Cuzzupe is anxious for the 2010 scholastic season. He noted that Carroll returns many key players and he believes the Pats can contend in the Southern Division.

“This year I think we’ll really see us making that next step and going past the first round of the playoffs,” he said. “We’re looking forward to getting on a hot streak and maybe surprising some people.

“Our attack is loaded and our defense is big. We have get offensive firepower; we’re expecting a lot.”
