Monmouth University has named seniors Megan Brennan (King of Prussia/Archbishop Carroll), Shawn Evans (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown), and Ali Pollock (Watervliet, N.Y./Shaker) as team captains for the 2010 season, head coach Denise Wescott announced recently.

“I think the team looks at them as leaders,” said Wescott. “All three set the pace on the field and they are strong players that we will look to in order to get things done. Megan, Ali and Shawn all possess good communication skills and will be a great bridge between the coaching staff and the team this season.

“The nicest part is that they all understand what we have not yet accomplished. All three are hungry for a championship this season.”

Brennan earned her second consecutive First Team All-Northeast Conference nod after leading the Hawks for the second straight season in goals and points. The midfielder finished the 2009 season with 59 points coming on 45 goals and 14 assists, while finishing second on the team in both ground balls and draw controls. She has been a major part of Monmouth’ success and has over 100 goals and 150 points in three seasons with the Blue & White.

“Megan exhibits a great amount of composure on the field, she settles the rest of the team down,” said Wescott.

Evans started every game on attack for the Hawks in 2009, finishing second on the team in goals with 29. The Moorestown, N.J. native was third on Monmouth in points (34), while collecting 17 ground balls and 21 draw controls as a junior. Evans was MU’s most accurate shooter a season ago, with 85% of her shots finding the cage.

Pollock, an upstate New York native, rounds out the 2009-10 Monmouth captains. A season ago she finished second on the Hawks with 61 points, including a team-high 22 assists. The midfielder also tallied 22 goals, eight of which came against Central Connecticut State, setting a new MU mark. Pollock earned Second Team All-NEC honors for the second consecutive season in 2009 and her 47 career-assists currently ranks eighth all-time for the Blue & White.
