Abington senior midfielder Rich Rambo has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Hofstra University.

Rambo was an All-Eastern Pennsylvania Scholastic Lacrosse Association and Suburban One National Conference selection who helped the Ghosts claim the league crown and finish 17-6 overall in 2009.

Rambo, who scored 33 goals and also was an All-Phillylacrosse.com Honorable Mention pick, liked the school’s proximity to New York City and its strong lacrosse program.

“I liked the coaching staff a lot,” he said. “I love the campus and how its close to New York City.”

Rambo, who plans to major in business, is aware that Hofstra is heavily involved in supporting the HEADstrong Foundation. The program was created after Hofstra lacros

se player Nick Colleluori – a Ridley graduate – passed away following a lengthy fight against Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2006.

“I want to get involved,” Rambo said.

Rambo is also happy that his Abington and Duke’s Lacrosse Club teammate, Joey Jones, has committed to Hofstra.

“He (Jones) committed before me and I was (looking) at a couple others,” Rambo said. “Then he said to go up there and check it out.”

Before he heads to Long Island, Rambo has one more year at Abington, which figures to be a District 1 contender in 2010. The Ghosts have a number of key returnees an

d Rambo will get to play with his little brother, freshman Matt Rambo.

“I definitely think we’ll make a run this year,” Rich Rambo said. “I think we can be a Top Four team.”

Seniors can sign a National Letter of Intent during the early signing period Nov. 11-18.
