Louisville assistant Lisa Staedt, a Springfield-Delco graduate, has been promoted to associate head coach for the third-year program.

Staedt, a former national player of the year finalist at James Madison University, enters her third season as an assistant with Louisville.

Staedt, a 2003 JMU graduate, came to Louisville with Cardinals head coach Kellie Young from JMU. Staedt was an assistant to Young with the Dukes in 2006 where she was instrumental in helping JMU’ win the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) regular-season and tournament titles and reach the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament. Prior to that, she served two years (2003-05) as assistant coach at Virginia Tech.

As a player, Staedt was one of five finalists for the Tewaaraton Trophy for the nation’s top player as a JMU senior in 2003 and was also a 2002 Tewaaraton Trophy nominee.

Staedt was a three-time All-America (2001, 2002 and 2003) at JMU and earned Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA)/U.S. Lacrosse first team All-America recognition in 2003.

She was a three-time (2001-03) All-South honoree, first team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection and all-state (Virginia Sports Information Directors) choice. Staedt was voted the 2002 and 2003 CAA Player of the Year and 2003 CAA Tournament most valuable player. She was named to the conference all-tournament team in 2001, 2002 and 2003.

The Springfield native holds JMU records for season (76 in 2003) and career (187) ground balls and ranks second on the Dukes’ career goals list (161), third on the career points list (224) and fifth on the career assist list (63).

A four-year starter, Staedt was a member of JMU’s 2001 and 2003 CAA champion teams and the Dukes’ 2000 NCAA semifinalist team. She played in three (2000, 2001, 2003) NCAA Tournaments.

Staedt also played for the U.S. Developmental Team from 2001-03 and the Elite Squad in 2006-07.

Louisville also promoted Matt Lawicki to the role as first assistant after the Cardinals enjoyed a solid season in the first year of Big East play, going 10-7 overall and 3-4 in the conference.

“I am honored that both Lisa and Matt have been by my side for the past four years and thrilled that they will continue in these new roles with Louisville Lacrosse,” said Young. “They are not only dedicated and passionate coaches…but they are family. This promotion is well deserved and I hope is a sign of my respect for what they contribute to Louisville Lacrosse.”
