Team Andress will reunite at the Race for Hope-Philadelphia on Nov. 1

August 23, 2009 by Chris Goldberg

The push to join “Team Andress” has again been launched.

Friends of popular Philly lacrosse coach Deb Andress are encouraging members of the lacrosse community to help her in her fight against a brain tumor by registering to participate in the Race For Hope-Philadelphia on Nov. 1 at the Art Museum.

Last year Team Andress – a group of more than 700 friends from Philadelphia, Penn State and beyond – helped raise $48,000 for the Brain Tumor Society through sponsorships and sales of t-shirts.

Andress, the head coach at Penn State Abington and a popular youth and club coach from Doylestown who excelled at Penn State main campus, continues to fight a brain tumor. Money raised goes to help in research to combat the disease in her name.

The 5-K race begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Art Museum steps. Participants can walk or run and athletes and friends are encouraged to register to compete in teambuilding exercises. Last year the participants raced with their lacrosse sticks to show their support of Andress.

To join Team Andress for 2009, go to this link at the braintumorcommunity.org. Above “Jacquie Beck” in the Team Andress grey box click the link “Join Team.” Those who do not wish to race may register to make a donation.

So far, $375 has been pledged for this year; the goal is at least $30,000. This is the fourth year of the Philadelphia event; last year 5,000 people participated.
