Patrick Resch scored the game-winner as the Duke’s Lacrosse Club edged Belax, 6-5, today to win its fourth straight Champ Camp championship at Johns Hopkins.

The Duke’s finished the tournament, one of the summer’s biggest for boys’ lacrosse clubs, with a 9-0 mark. The title game was only time the Duke’s received a challenge. Belax, the Baltimore Elite Lacrosse Club, is one of the top club teams out of the Baltimore hotbed.

With its fourth championship, the Duke’s joined Tri-State, champions in 1995, 1996, 1997, and 2000, as just the second team to win four Champ Camp Championships. The Duke’s has won 36 Champ Camp games in a row; its last loss coming in the 2005 championship game.

The Duke’s is the first team to win four straight.

Belax was making its second appearance in a Champ Camp Championship game after dropping a 5-4 decision to Duke’s in the 2006 title game. This year’s camp featured teams from 18 states, the District of Columbia and the Canadian province of Ontario.

Also scoring for the Duke’s were: Andrew Mongeluzzi (Lower Merion), Rich Rambo (Abington), Ryan Kilpatrick (Salesianum), Kevin Forster (La Salle) and Ty Souders (Emmaus). Goalie Andrew O’Connell (Malvern Prep) was clutch in the cage.

The Duke’s, which won the Group A pool play title, was not the only Philly team to excel at the tourney. Other group champions included Twist Blue (Group B), Twist Black (Group D), HEADstrong Elite (Group G) and Duke’s 2 (Group EE).

HEADstrong Elite (7-1 overall) fell in the quarterfinals, but rebounded today to defeat Twist Black, 7-6, in a consolation game. Duke’s 2 (6-2) also rebounded from a quarterfinals loss to down Smithtown 1, 9-4. Meanwhile, Twist Blue (5-3) closed with a 7-3 win over the SoCal Surf Dogs in a consolation game.
