Penn’s Spiro makes first-team IWLCA All-American; DeLuca, McKenna, Haggerty are 2nd-team picks

    Penn junior midfielder Emma Spiro, who led the Quakers to their third straight Final Four appearance, has been named a first-team All-American by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Collegiate Association (IWLCA) and US Lacrosse.

    Meanwhile, Penn junior midfielder Ali DeLuca, Princeton senior defender Marie McKenna (Penn Charter) and Ohio State junior attack Kelly Haggerty (Unionville) earned second-team honors.

    Spiro collected 32 goals and 50 draw controls for the Quakers.

    McKenna had 39 groundballs and 29 caused turnovers for the 14-4 Tigers, helping them reach the quarterfinals. DeLuca had 40 goals and 15 assists. Haggerty, who collected 52 goals and 39 assists, ranked fourth in the NCAA in points per game this season. She also ranked sixth in assists per game (2.29) and 21st in goals per game (3.06).

    The IWLCA and US Lacrosse will honor the National All-Americans at an awards banquet on June 13 in King of Prussia.
