PA Media Rankings: District 1 champ Springfield-D girls take top spot; La Salle & Conestoga are 1-2 for boys

May 25, 2009 by Chris Goldberg

Springfield-Delco, which dealt Radnor its first loss in two years, has taken over the top spot in the Pennsylvania Lacrosse Media Rankings for girls’ teams while district boys’ champions La Salle (District 12) and Conestoga (District 1) are 1-2 in the boys’ rankings.

The Cougars defeated Radbor, 14-9, for their 20th straight win and snapped the Raiders’ 44-game win streak in the process. The win gave Springfield-Delco its fourth straight district crown (it won the last three District 1 Class AA titles before the state moved back to one classification for 2009) and and avenged a 15-5 loss to Radnor in the season’s third game.

On the boys’ side, La Salle edged then-No. 2 St. Joseph’s Prep for its sixth straight Catholic League crown. The win also gave the Explorers the first District 12 title. In District 1, Conestoga toppled Downingtown East, 7-4, for the first boys’ champion. Until this year, boys’ lacrosse was under the jurisdiction of the Pennsylvanioa Scholastic Lacrosse Associations; now it is sanctioned by the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association.

The PA Media Rankings are chosen by Phillylacrosse.com and six newspapers: The Philadelphia Inquirer, Delaware County Daily Times, Allentown Morning Call, Harrisburg Patriot-News, Lancaster Intelligencer Journal and Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
