May 22, 2009 by Chris Goldberg

Phillylacrosse.com Posted 5/22/09

Some of the sites and times have been released for the first Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) lacrosse championships.

The 16-team tourneys for both boys and girls will begin Tuesday, May 26. Seven teams from District 1 and one each from Districts 11 and 12 in boys and girls will compete for the right to go to HersheyPark Stadium June 6 for the title games.

On the boys’ side, the District 1 champion, which will be decided tonight at Villanova University (8 p.m.) when top-seeded Conestoga meets No. 2 Downingtown East, will face the District 1 seventh-place team, Garnet Valley, at Radnor High at 8 p.m. in the opening round.

That game will be preceded by a contest between the District 1 runner-up and the District 1 sixth-place finisher, West Chester East. Meanwhile, the District 1 third-place finisher, Springfield-Delco, will play the District 3 runner-up, Hempfield, at Governor Mifflin at 7 p.m. Springfield-Delco defeated CB East, 11-8, tonight at Villanova.

Also, Lower Merion, the District 1 fifth-place finisher, will meet the District 11 champion at Allentown’s J. Birney Cruim Stadium, at 5 p.m. Emmaus, the favorite to win the tourney, is hosting Parkland tonight at 7 p.m. in the District 11 finals. Meanwhile, District 12 champion La Salle will meet CB East at Abington at 5 p.m. Sites and times of the other boys’ games have not been released.

On the girls’ side, District 1 champion Springfield-Delco will meet District 1 seventh-place finisher Boyertown at West Chester East at 8 p.m. That game will be preceded by another all-District 1 contest between No. 2 finisher Radnor and No. 6 finisher North Penn. Also, District 11 champion Southern Lehigh – which toppled Nazareth, 17-10, tonight in the title game – meets District 1 fifth-place finisher Unionville at Emmaus at 5 p.m. Times and sites for the other games have not been released.
