Girls’ wrap: Wood upsets Abington, 6-5, in OT as father defeats daughter; Ridley topples Interboro

Caitlyn McCartney had three goals and scored the game-winner in overtime as visiting Archbishop Wood upset Abington, 6-5, in non-league girls’ lacrosse Thursday.

Aubrie Ahrens had two goals and Alyssa Andress added one for Wood (2-0) and Kate Smart made 10 saves. Kailee Ashby had three goals for the Ghosts (2-1), ranked fifth in the PIAA in the Media Rankings. Carli Fitzgerald and Maddie Evans also scored for Abington.

The game also featured an intriguing father-daughter competition. Abington All-American goalie Alisha Aquilino – who had 10 saves – is the daughter of Wood coach Chris Aquilino.

Ridley 15, Interboro 9

Becky Donkin poured in four goals and Kelsey Yori added three for the Green Raiders in their win over their arch rivals. Shaela Allen, Lacey Doubet and Jenna Massimo all had two goals while Olivia Goodwin and Ashley Henderson each had one. Megan Pitts had four saves and Maura Flynn had six saves.

Steph Parcell scored five goals for the Bucs while Danielle Haney had two goals and two assists and Monica Parcell had a goal and an assist.

Boyertown 22, Perkiomen Valley 15

Sam Mazzie netted six goals and Lyndsey Babilon, Emily Austerberry and Rachel Hilbert added three apiece for the Bears in their Pioneer Athletic Conference win. Emily Beisswenger had six goals for PV and Kelsey Metzler, Antonia Falcone, Grace Malizia and Alexa Webb added two apiece. Amber Gansz scored once.

Unionville 16, Bishop Shanahan 6

Julie Truluck pumped in five goals Lindsey Smith had four while L. Carney had three goals and two assists for the Indians (3-1).

Allison Sweeney and Jackie Donato each scored two goals for the Eagles while Kelly Meehan, Gina Eberwien and Liz Duke each had one. Megan Dunn made three saves.

Harriton 14, Haverford 12

Carli Sukonik pumped in six goals and Betsy Hurtado added three for the Rams (4-0) in their Central League debut.

Harriton raced out to a 9-2 lead in the 1st half before Haverford went on a 9-1 run to take a 11-10 lead midway through the second half.  Haverford scored to lead 12-11 at 9:42, but Harriton fought back and tied it at 12 with 6:19 to play on a rebound goal for Jess Schwab (two goals, one assist).

Hurtado scored the go-ahead goal with 5:21 left on a feed from Jess Rothstein (one goal, three assists) and Harriton withstood a furious charge from Haverford before Sukonik scored an insurance goal with 1:50 to seal the win.

Laura Walzer added two goals for Harriton and Jackie Marshall made eight saves.

Pottsgrove 16, Upper Perkiomen 4:

Ashley Delaney had six goals and five assists and Ali Bainbridge had five goals. for the Falcons in the Pioneer Athletic Conference win. Leah High had twoi goals for the Indians.

Pottstown 13, Phoenixville 11:

Kasey Mock scored five goals and Devon Yocom added three for Pottstown (2-0) in its PAC-10 win.Liz Jones (four goals) and Becky Porter (three goals) led Phoenixville.

Central Bucks South 7, Souderton 5

Methacton 18, Spring-Ford 4

Sun Valley 19, Archbishop Prendergast 4
