Men’s recruit: St. Joseph’s Prep senior attackman Glynn signs with Drexel

St. Joseph’s Prep senior attacker Brendan Glynn has signed a letter of intent to play at Drexel.

Glynn said the reason was simple for choosing the Dragons – head coach Chris Bates.

“The reason I really picked Drexel was because of coach Bates,” Glynn said. “I got the chance to play for him in the Team Philly program (Competitive Edge) last summer and he is really intense.

“He is a blue collar-type of coach and likes to work and get after it, and I am a blue collar-type of player. I’d like to play for a coach of that mentality.”

Glynn said he is interested in majoring either in education or business. He is considering becoming a history teacher or professor or perhaps going into banking or working for his father, who runs a software company.

“I like that I am going to a school in the city,” said Glynn, who will join Springfield-Montco senior and good friend Martin Goldfarb at Drexel. “I have been going to high school in the city and I enjoy the environment and the culture. I also did want to stay close to home.”

Glynn, an All-Eastern Pennsylvania Scholastic Lacrosse Association pick last year, is excited about the 2009 scholastic season. His Hawks nearly defeated eventual state champion La Salle in the Catholic League finals last year (6-5 loss) and figure to present a major challenge to the Explorers this year.

“I think we’re going to have a great team,” he said. “We lost only three starters and we have a new coach (Eric Gregg) who knows his stuff.

“We have a group that likes to get after it and rides a team hard and then finishes every play.  La Salle has a good team, but we’ll have a good chance of beating them this year.”
