US Lacrosse to hold men’s senior team tryouts

December 9, 2008 by Chris Goldberg

US Lacrosse will be conducting a tryout to select players for the men’s senior team that will represent the United States at the 2010 Federation of International Lacrosse World Championships in Manchester, England.

The tryouts will take place June 7-8 at Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I. The tournament will be held July 14-25, 2010.

The tryout camp is by invitation only. To be considered for a tryout invitation, players must submit an on-line application, available at http://www.uslacrosse.org and pay the $50 application fee by Friday, Jan. 30. In addition, applicants must be a current member of US Lacrosse.

Approximately 80 players will be invited to the tryouts, from which approximately 40 players will be selected as part of the 2010 U.S. Men’s Team player pool. These 40 players will then compete in practices and competitions over three weekends in the fall of 2009.

After that evaluation period, 23 players will be named to the 2010 U.S. Men’s Team roster in December 2009. Those tryout participants who do not make the final 40 or the final 23 will be considered as alternates to the team.

Complete information about the tryout process is available on the Web at http://www.uslacrosse.org/national_teams/2010tryoutinfo.phtml

The U.S. is looking to reclaim the top spot in international lacrosse after losing to Canada, 15-10, in the 2006 world championship game. The loss snapped a 38-game winning streak in international competition and denied the U.S. the gold medal for the first time since 1978. The U.S. has won seven of the nine international world championships conducted since 1974.
