Three Philly grads tabbed as Drexel men’s captains for 2009 season

Senior midfielder Brian Neary (La Salle), junior attacker Colin Ambler (Abington) and junior defender Matt McCormick (Malvern Prep) as well as senior defender Brendan Baker and senior midfielder Kevin Dart have been named captains for Drexel for the 2009 season.

The Dragons, who have won a share of the Colonial Athletic Association championship in each of the last two seasons, went 13-4 last year have also announced their schedule for 2009.

Ambler led the team in scoring last year with 21 goals and 21 assists and was named Wapner-Newman Collegiate Student-Athlete of the Week. Dart scored seven goals and Neary added four goals while McCormick was second on the Dragons with 37 groundballs and Baker added 21 groundballs.

Graham, Ricci named captains at Loyola

Loyola College seniors Eddie Graham (La Salle) and PT Ricci (Conestoga) have been named as captains for Loyola College for 2009. They join seniors Shane Koppens and Jimmy Daly. This group looks to lead the Greyhounds to their second straight ECAC Championship and third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.

A knee injury forced Graham to miss all of last season after he started for two seasons. He is also a key member of Loyola’s man down unit which has been ranked 10th, 15th, and 5th nationally during his time at Loyola.
Ricci, a long-stick midfielder, enters his senior year after starting his first two seasons at short stick defensive midfield. Last year, his first full season at long stick, he led the nation among defensive players with an average of six ground balls per game, picking up 84 in 14 contests. His 84 groundballs rank him 6th on Loyola’s all time list for a single season. Ricci was also a force on the offensive end of the field recording three goals and four assists while being named 1st Team All ECAC.

Cebron is named assistant for Drexel women

Drexel women’s coach Anna Marie Vesco has named Noelle Cebron an assistant coach on her staff. Cebron comes to Drexel after serving as head coach at Marist the last four seasons.
Cebron guided the Red Foxes to the 2007 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship game and was named the league’s Coach of the Year. The team also made a pair of conference semifinal appearances during her tenure at Marist.
Cebron was a four-year letterwinner at Temple where she guided the Owls to a pair of Atlantic 10 Championships and two NCAA Tournament berths. She set the program’s single-season assist record and is ranked second in career assists at Temple. Cebron served as an undergraduate assistant coach for one season before being named head coach at Marist.
