San Francisco Dragons midfielder Greg Gurenlian (Springfield-Delco) was named Defender of the Week by the Major League Lacrosse (MLL) for his efforts in Saturday’s 21-20 victory over the host Long Island Lizards.

Gurenlian earned game MVP honors by winning 31 of 41 face-offs and nearly tying an MLL record for groundballs with 22. He also had a goal and three assists as the Dragons improved to 3-7.

Gurenlian was one ground ball shy of the league record, which was set by Paul Cantabene during the 2004 season with the Baltimore Bayhawks. Gurenlian leads the Dragons with 61 ground balls in 10 games this year.
