Midfielder Greg Gurenlian (Springfield-Delco) earned game MVP honors by having a remarkable all-around performance, helping the San Francisco Dragons to a 21-20 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) win over the host Long Island Lizards Saturday at the Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale.

Gurenlian scooped a career-high 22 ground balls – just one shy of the MLL record – and won 31 of 41 face-offs. He also had a goal and three assists as the Dragons (3-7) had 51 of the game’s 79 groundballs.

Numerous Philadelphia graduates played key roles for San Francisco. Bill McGlone (Ridley) collected two goals and four assists, while Ryan Cranston (Henderson), Mike Podgajny (Ridley) and Todd Fairlie (Marple Newtown, Widener) added one goal apiece. Xander Ritz (Radnor) had one assist.

The Lizards fell to 5-5.

Riptide 13, Barrage 9
Goalkeeper Mickey Jarboe made 19 saves to earn game MVP honors as the Los Angeles Riptide snapped the Barrage’s three-game win streak.

Peter Trombino led the Barrage (6-4) with four goals and goalie Brian Dougherty (Episcopal Academy) made 18 saves.
