Head coach Regy Thorpe has named a 66-man player pool for the U.S. Men’s Box National Team. Nearly 50 members of the team will participate in a training camp in Utica, N.Y. this weekend. They’ll be back in Utica the following weekend to compete in the North American Invitational from Sept. 29-30.
The U.S. is training for the 2024 World Lacrosse Box Championships, which will take place Sept. 20-29, 2024. The Utica University Nexus Center will serve as the main tournament hub, featuring three playing surfaces within the state-of-the-art, 169,440-square-foot facility. The Adirondack Bank Center at the Utica Memorial Auditorium (known as the ‘Aud’) – a 3,956-seat multi-purpose arena and home of the American Hockey League’s Utica Comets – will also host a full slate of games.
The U.S. men’s box team has won the bronze medal at each of the five previous world box championships and will be led by Thorpe, a former U.S. team player, as head coach for the second time.
This year’s U.S. team will be one of the most experienced ever when it comes to high-level box lacrosse. Forty of the players are currently on National Lacrosse League rosters, including second team All-NLL pick Tom Schreiber and NLL All-Rookie team members Jack Hannah, Danny Logan and John Piatelli.
The U.S. player pool also features 15 returning bronze medalists from the 2019 team — Gowah Abrams, Trevor Baptiste, Greg Downing, Tim Edwards, Connor Kelly, Jake Lazore, David Mather, Cody Radziewicz, Matt Rambo (La Salle), John Ranagan, Joe Resetarits, Blaze Riorden, Taylor Stuart, Gale Thorpe and Joel White.
The U.S. Men’s Box National Team is supported by the following sponsors: Nike, MedStar Health, Warrior, Stryker and Athletic Republic.
