The 2022 World Lacrosse Men’s U21 World Championship will be take place from August 10-20 at the University of Limerick in Limerick, Ireland. A record 23 teams will compete in the Championship and it will be the largest ever age group World Championship staged by World Lacrosse.
This Swedish team features 13 young men who have been training in Swedish lacrosse hotbed
programs such as Lund, Farsta, Göteborg, Luleå and Linköping. They are all members of
the Swedish National Team Development Program (SNTDP). The SNTDP works with all
lacrosse players in Sweden under the age of 21 to help them improve their game and get to
the next level. The SNTDP runs youth lacrosse camps for all U21 players in Sweden, and has the ultimate goal of fielding a competitive roster for the 2022 U21 World Championships in
Ireland.
Coaches
Niels Schnieder has been an important figure in Swedish lacrosse for the past 3 seasons. He has been instrumental in helping to rebuild the program in Göteborg, and has been coaching in the
SNTDP for the past 2 years. In October 2021, Niels travelled with some members of the SNTDP to compete in the Scheider cup in Germany, coaching a shorthanded squad to a bronze medal. Niels
will be the defensive coach of the 2022 squad in Ireland.
Ed McCallion of Haverford has coached boys lacrosse for the past 17 years, and girls lacrosse for 13 in his home State of Pennsylvania. He has won 3 straight league championships, and brings a wealth of experience to our coaching staff. Ed will be the offensive coach of the 2022 squad in Ireland.
Anton Johansson begins his head coaching career after a successful playing career in the US college ranks at programs in Springfield and Cazenovia, NY. Now back home in Sweden, Anton is a vital figure in developing lacrosse on Swedish soil.
