Team Philly Boys’ Command squad earns top seed for playoffs at All-America Underclass tourney

Michael Ortlieb (Malvern Prep) scored three goals while Chris Cobb (Tower Hill-DE) and Evan Large (Haverford School) each had two goals and an assist and Owen Mears (Malvern Prep) had a goal and four assists as Team Philly defeated Southwest 15-4 to finish pool play at 4-0 in the All-America Underclass tournament today at Elkridge, Md.

Team Philly earned the top seed in the playoffs and will have a bye in the first round Sunday before meeting the Midwest/CONNY winner in the semifinals at Try Park 10:30 a.m.

Bradley Barber (Springfield-Delco) added two goals and Jake Bickel (Malvern Prep) had a goal and an assist for Team Philly. Griff Meyer (Haverford School) and Brayden Lasensky (Salesianum School) stood out at the faceoff X.

In the Boys’ Highlight, Team Philly finished 3-1 by blitzing Southwest, 10-2, as Dylan Jaszcz (Episcopal Academy) had three goals and Walker Schwartz (Germantown Academy), Wills Burt (Haverford School) and AJ Nikolic (Malvern Prep) each scored twice.

Patrick Jameison (Conestoga) and Hayes Schreiner (Springside Chestnut Hill Academy ) stood out in goals with 10 saves combined.

Team Philly earned the third seed and will meet No. 6 Southwest again in he first round of the playoffs Sunday at 9:15 a.m. at Troy Park. A win would push Team Philly into the semifinals vs. No. 2 seed Long Island, the only team to beat Philly, 7-6.

In Girls’ Highlight action, Team Philly (3-1) claimed the No. 3 playoff berth with a 16-2 rout of Southwest. Avery Bickell (Lower Merion) had four goals and an assist and Sophia Trahan (McDonogh-MD) had four goals while Gabbi Koury (Owen J. Roberts) had a goal and four assists and Alice Nash (Villa Maria Academy) and Chloe Bleckley (Archbishop Carroll) each had a goala and an assist.

Team Philly will meet the South in the first round of the playoffs Sunday at Troy Park at 9:15 a.m.

The Philly Command team finished 1-3 with an 8-7 loss to Southwest despite goals and an an assist from Mairyn Dwyer (Agnes Irwin).
