Lis Zuern was officially named head girls’ lacrosse coach at defending state champion Radnor Tuesday at the Radnor Board of Directors meeting.

Lis Zuern

Zuern had been an assistant at Episcopal Academy the past 3 years and also coaches in the Philly Blast travel program.

Zuern, from Cicero-North Syracuse in Upstate New York, was a 3-year starter at attack at Binghamton University (Class of 2012). She moved to Philadelphia from Wisconsin where she was the Assistant Coach at University School of Milwaukee for six seasons (2013-2018). She also was a club coach for MKE Elite and Black Lax.

Zuern takes over a Raiders team that went 22-2 last year and defeated Manheim Township, 11-5, for its fourth PIAA championship. Head coach Kristin Addis stepped down late in the summer to spend more time with her family.

“Everyone spoke so highly of the Radnor Family that it was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up,” Zuern said. “The goal is to maintain and build upon the championship culture, in order to keep the longevity of success alive.

“I am thankful to the AD and the School Board for this opportunity,” she added. “I have a great group of leaders with this year’s senior class and I am excited for the season to start. “

Zuern said she was grateful for her experiences coaching in Philly and in Milwaukee.

“Over the years I have had great mentors in coaching,” she said. “When I first moved to Milwaukee I was young in a new city and the head coach at University School of Milwaukee, Sam Adey, took me under her wing and really showed me not only skills to coach lacrosse but how to build relationships with players beyond the field.

“Once I moved to Philly, I got paired up with (EA coach and Philly Blast co-director) Josie Tomaino and (former Villanova coach and Blast co-director) Julie Young who are both amazing role models and helped me take my coaching game to the next level. My years in Philly under Josie Tomaino and Julie Young have prepared me for this opportunity at Radnor. “

During Zuern’s time at USM in Wisconsin, her team reached two State Championship finals. Zuern, who was honored as the Wisconsin Assistant Coach of the year in 2013, served as the Player Development Director for MKE Elite Lacrosse club from 2015-2018.
