Jacob Farrell (Bishop Shanahan) has been named Assistant Men’s Lacrosse coach at Piedmont University, Head Coach Tim Dunton announced recently.

Farrell comes to Piedmont after spending this past season as an assistant coach at Division III Muhlenberg College where he helped the Mules to a 9-6 overall record and a 5-3 mark in the Centennial Conference.

Beginning his coaching career at the high school level, Farrell spent time at Bishop Shanahan, helping the school capture back-to-back PIAA Class 2A State Championships and producing multiple Division I athletes in the process.

“We are excited about adding Coach Farrell to our staff,” Dunton said. “He is coming from a great program (Muhlenberg College) in one of the most competitive conferences in the country.”

Farrell has spent time developing his coaching skills at the Lacrosse Evolution training facility under the direction of Tom Slate.

For four years, Farrell served in the United States Navy before being honorably discharged in 2020.

As a player, Farrell has a Division III background, competing for four years as a defenseman at Susquehanna University, helping his team to a pair of Landmark Conference Championships in 2013 and 2014. He had 47 groundballs and three goals.

“Going through this process, Coach Farrell separated himself from the pack,” said Dunton. “His enthusiasm for the game and overall knowledge will benefit our players and we cannot wait to get going this fall with him on our staff.”

Farrell will assist Dunton in all facets of the program.
