Downingtown East tops Kennett, 12-10, clinches Ches-Mont League championship

Bryson Kolinsky had three goals and two assists while Alystair Hemberger and Dylan McMahon each scored three times as host Downingtown East toppled Kennett, 12-10, Tuesday to clinch the Ches-Mont League championship.

The Cougars are 11-0 in the league and 15-2 overall, and are ranked No. 9 by Phillylacrosse.com, and third in the state in Class AAA. They can wrap up a perfect regular season in the league by defeating Unionville Thursday.

Last year’s undefeated Ches-Mont champ, Kennett, is 8-4 and 11-6.

Deadlocked at 4-4, East sophomore Connor Sweeney put his team ahead for good in the second period. East went up 8-4 early in the second half and fought off several Kennett comeback attempts.

Freshman goaltender Brady Quinn posted eight second half saves for the Cougars and Evan Milon had five saves in the first half.

Bo Freebery had four goals and two assists and Colin Jung had three goals and an assist. Jake Freebery had two goals and three assists and hit the 100 career goal mark.

N.J. Cogliati won 14 of 26 faceoffs for Downingtown East while Mike Waite had a goal and five groundballs.
