Black Bear 2025 claims Summit Ventures Niagara Lacrosse Classic championship

The Black Bear 2025s won their first championship, capping their summer in dramatic fashion with a 6-5 come-from-behind overtime win over Performax Prep 2025 in the Summit Ventures Niagara Lacrosse Classic on July 17th in Youngstown N.Y.

Black Bear was down 4-1 at the half, but used contributions throughout the lineup to make a 4-0 run to take a 5-4 lead with less than 2 minutes to go. Performax was able to tie it, 5-5, off a late turnover, but Black Bear would not be denied.

Black Bear regained possession with an EMO heading into overtime and had a great scoring chance from attack Collin McCormick (Upper Merion). Black Bear ran its EMO once more and James Herb (Perkiomen Valley) took a pass from Ryan Lamson (Pope John Paul II) to step in and sting it topshelf to win the game.

“The best views come from the hardest climb,” said Black Bear HS Director Bryan Churchey, “Our 2025s have been through some rough times but they are a resilient group, they never quit, never stop working, they earned and deserved this one. So happy for these guys and our families to finish the summer champions!”

The 2025s finished their summer with their first winning record, going 9-8-1 overall after competing at Boys Summer Slam, Summer Cup, LaxFed Members Cup, and Niagara Lacrosse Classic.

Players who competed at Niagara in include : George Schwambach (Wyomissing), Calvin McGuire (Pennridge), Hunter Reed (CB West), AJ Crisi (Twin Valley), Jacob Rotay (Perkiomen Valley), Gavin Rotonda (Boyertown), Tyler Szalabofka (Pope John Paul II), Max Dreisbach (Owen J Roberts), Donny Troyano (Twin Valley), Carson Tormey (Pennridge), Will Menard (CB East), Andrew Wheeler (Downingtown West), Evan Tillou (Owen J Roberts), Jonas Rothermel (Oley Valley), Nolan Gerstberger (CB East), James Herb (Perkiomen Valley), Ryan Lamson (Pope John Paul II), Colin McCormick (Upper Merion), Zach Voynar (Pope John Paul II), Oliver Brewer (Souderton), and Finn Blanton (Phoenixville)

The Team was coached that weekend by Matthew Gress (Assistant Coach Swarthmore College), Austin Mutter (Defensive Coordinator Gwynedd Mercy University) and  Bryan Churchey (Head Coach Perkiomen Valley).
