Women’s lacrosse: Wills, Scott, Detwiler help lead Loyola past Villanova

The Villanova women’s lacrosse team fell to Loyola, 18-6 on Wednesday afternoon in Villanova Stadium.

The Greyhounds came out strong and netted five straight goals over the opening eight minutes before the Wildcats started a run of their own. Katie Comerford set up Brittany Bruno for Villanova’s first goal. Next it was Bruno who dished it to Alexa Tsahalis and to end the run Adeline Fischer netted an unassisted goal to make it 5-3 with just under nine left in the half.

Loyola (1-2) got a goal, an assist and a groundball from Emily Wills (Agnes Irwin), a goal and four draw controls by Liz Scott (Conestoga) and a caused turnover and draw control from Katie Detwiler (Archbishop Carroll).

Livy Rosenzweig, who finished with a game high nine points, dished out back-to-back assists for the Greyhounds to push them back up 7-3. Villanova’s Tsahalis and Libby McKenna would net goals before the half, but Loyola would also net two to make it 9-5 at the half.

Rosenzweig in the second half netted five of Loyola’s nine goals in the half. The Wildcats netted one in the second half when McKenna was able to score an unassisted one at the 6:05 mark. This made the final 18-6 Loyola.

Defender Sydney Frank finished with three draw controls, two ground balls and one caused turnover. Caroline Curnal had a team high seven draw controls for the Wildcats while Jenna Pastore had two caused turnovers.
