From Press Release
True Lacrosse is pleased to announce the launch of True Philadelphia, a new travel lacrosse program that will kick off its inaugural year on Thursday, July 22, with tryouts at Germantown Academy for boys in grad years 2022-2029.
True Lacrosse offers elite lacrosse programming in 18 states and is excited to expand their community to include the greater-Philadelphia area with the creation of True Philly.
The True Method provides a comprehensive approach to establish a firm foundation for players to grow their game: more training hours, professional coaching, elite tournaments, and thorough recruiting guidance are the cornerstones of the True experience. True Lacrosse is excited to provide the young athletes in the Philadelphia area with excellent training, instruction, and even more opportunities for competition and national exposure.
To lead True Philly, True Lacrosse has hired Peter Burns to serve as regional director. Burns, an assistant coach at Chestnut Hill College, comes to True Lacrosse after running the Bandits Lacrosse Club for the past six years. He also has an extensive professional background in sport management, having previously worked for the Philadelphia Phillies, Philadelphia Eagles, and NXT Sports.
True Lacrosse Co-Founder and Owner Jake Deane said, “Peter and his colleagues at Bandits Lacrosse have proven success in teaching the game and training young people to be skilled, smart athletes while running an organized program. We’re excited to bring True Lacrosse to Philadelphia and bring our proven model of an elite training experience to the lacrosse community in Philly and the surrounding area.”
Burns, who attended historic powerhouse West Genesee High School in Syracuse and was a first-team All-Conference player at St. John Fisher College, said, “I am grateful and very excited for this opportunity to join the True Lacrosse family and to help bring their vision to Philadelphia. The greater-Philly area is fast-becoming one of the premier regions for lacrosse in the country, so bringing True Lacrosse’s proven history and reputation for offering elite training and player development here is thrilling.”
True Philly will offer players immediate access to top level training and coaching. Lacrosse players in the area will have the opportunity to try out for True Philly later this summer for the chance to be founding players for the first-ever True Philly travel teams.
All players selected to the travel teams will also have the chance to be evaluated for the True Philly State Teams. State Teams are designed to help the most elite players get to the next competitive level. Additionally, all players will have access to True National events, including tryouts for our True National teams through our True National ID Clinics, where players will be trained by some of the top coaches in the country.
