Four members of the Franklin & Marshall women’s lacrosse team have been honored by USA Lacrosse Magazine as Preseason All-Americans. Junior Mary Pat McKenna (Spring-Ford) highlighted the list as she was named the Preseason Defenseman of the Year and was joined on the first-team by Marissa McGarrey (Baldwin School), Ally Marino (Episcopal Academy) and Emily Kitchin were recognized with second-team preseason accolades. All four of these individuals wrapped up last season by earning All-America recognition from the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA).
Named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a second-team IWLCA All-American in 2021, McKenna ranked third in the Centennial Conference with 10 caused turnovers in eight games in addition to 11 ground balls and nine draw controls during the 2021 season. She has started all 12 games during her Franklin & Marshall career and will be one of the leaders on a defense which allowed just 6.25 goals per game during the 2021 Centennial Conference Championship season. That total ranked 13th-best in Division III last spring.
The 2021 Centennial Conference Midfielder of the Year, McGarrey joined McKenna as a first-team preseason All-American. McGarrey’s honor matches her first-team IWLCA All-American honor from her junior campaign where she ranked third in the Centennial Conference in goals (21) and fifth in points (28). She scored multiple goals during every regular season game last spring, highlighted by five consecutive hat tricks during the championship pursuit. This marks the second straight season in which McGarrey has been honored by USA Lacrosse Magazine. She has scored 61 career goals and registered 81 career points in just 34 games during her F&M career.
Marino joined Kitchin on the second-team preseason All-America listing after earning second-team IWLCA All-American honors last spring. The 2019 Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year has earned All-CC and All-Metro Region honors during her only two completed seasons. Marino was fourth in the Centennial Conference with 29 points last spring, as she registered 19 goals and 10 assists. Marino has totaled 105 career points in just 37 games during her career. The senior is also among the top 25 players in school history with 76 career draw controls.
F&M was ranked No. 1 in the country from the moment the Diplomats made their return to play last spring and held that ranking throughout the remainder of the regular season as they captured the 2021 Centennial Conference Championship behind an undefeated regular season. The Diplomats subsequently earned the right to host first and second round games of the NCAA Tournament before being upset by William Smith during the second round of the national tournament. The Diplomats will return eight of their program-record nine All-Centennial Conference selections from the 2021 championship team to the field this spring.
