PIAA Boys’ AA semifinals: Mars becomes first from West to reach state finals with 10-3 win over Bishop Shanahan

Mars became the first team – boys’ or girls’ from the West and District 7 (WPIAL) to advance to a PIAA title game as it dethroned two-time defending champion Bishop Shanahan, 10-3, at Cumberland Valley.

Austin Cote scored five goals for the undefeated Planets (22-0) and Jack Dunham, Jacob Caringola, Kyle McEwen, Wes Scurci and Nick Crowley scored one apiece as Mars tallied the last six goals of the game.

Moon will play Allentown Central Catholic – a 16-6 winner over Crestwood – in the title game at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at West Chester East High School.

The Eagles (17-6) – who won the 2018 and 2019 AA state titles, got a goal and two assists from Owen Mehok and one goal each from Brendan Oakes and Colin McGrory.
