Penn State is ranked No. 4 in the Nike/US Lacrosse Division I Men’s Preseason Top 20, which was released on Wednesday.
Five of the six Big Ten teams are in the US Lacrosse national rankings. Maryland came in at No. 3 to give the conference two teams in the top five. The others are Ohio State (No. 12), Rutgers (No. 19), and Johns Hopkins (No. 20).
Duke tops the national rankings, with Syracuse coming in at No. 2. Virginia rounds out the top five.
Penn State was ranked first in last season’s preseason national rankings and went 5-2 before the season was canceled due to COVID-19. The Lions return five players that have earned All-America honors during their career.
The Lions are 21-4 overall and a perfect 5-0 in the Big Ten over the past two seasons. They won the most recent Big Ten regular season and Big Ten Tournament titles in 2019.
