From Press Release
Penn Head Coach Mike Murphy has announced the captains for the 2021 season with Adam Goldner (Malvern Prep), Ben Bedard, Mitch Bartolo and Sean Lulley taking on leadership responsibilities.
“We are very excited about our four captains for the 2021 season and we have never needed strong leadership as much as we do right now,” said Murphy. “This year has been as complicated and difficult as any year I have experience in my time in lacrosse.
These four young men have a combined 13 years of experience in our program and are very well versed in how we want to do things. They are doing a tremendous job so far navigating these unique challenges.”
Adam Goldner has been a force for the Quakers since his arrival in University City. A 2019 Honorable Mention USILA All-American, he currently ranks fifth in program history with 106 goals. Last spring, Goldner amassed 11 goals to go along with five assists in five games. In 2019, Goldner scored a school-record 56 goals and registered 63 points. He ranked fourth in the nation in goals per game as a junior, and his 63 points were the third-most in a single season in program history.

“Adam’s accomplishment on the field speak for themselves. What isn’t as obvious is his commitment to his craft, his teammates and this program. Adam sets a very high bar for himself in everything he does, and he holds his teammates to that standard as well. As a two-time captain and five-year starter, Adam is one of the most accomplished players and positive influences that we’ve had in my time here at Penn.”
Ben Bedard enjoyed a breakout campaign in the shortened 2020 season. Bedard started three games for the Quakers last spring and scored a pair of goals to go along with two assists. Over the last three seasons, he has appeared in 32 games and grabbed 14 ground balls.

“Ben has been a force on the field for years here at Penn, and now is a positive force of leadership in our program. Ben has the utmost respect of his teammates and our coaching staff.”
Match Bartolo has been starter in the midfield for the Quakers each of the last two seasons. In 2019, he recorded 24 points as he tallied 17 goals and dished out seven assists. Bartolo had two goals and an assist in three appearances last spring.

“Mitch has played a leading role for us in the midfield for the past three years, and now he is embracing his role as a team captain with class and positive energy, as we expected.”
Sean Lulley made a splash during his junior season as he picked up Maverik Media All-America honors. In five games in 2020, he led the team in both assists (16) and points (30). A 2021 Preseason Media All-American selection, Lulley ranked fourth in the NCAA in points per game (6.0) and fifth in assists per game (3.2) last spring.

“Sean has been a leader of our offense for a few years, and now he has really stepped into the role of captain and team leader. Sean’s leadership skills and care for his teammates make him very well prepared for this responsibility.”
