The Monmouth University men’s lacrosse team – coached by Ridley grad Brian Fisher – has been picked to finish third in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference’s Annual Preseason Coaches’ Poll, it was announced by the conference on Wednesday afternoon.

Chris Hervada

Monmouth (40 points) finished behind Marist (63) in the poll, as the Red Foxes were chosen to win the league for the second straight preseason, and Detroit Mercy (53). Quinnipiac (38) was voted fourth and Manhattan (32) occupied the fifth spot. Siena (29), Canisius (25) and St. Bonaventure (8) rounded out the ballot.

“Rankings aside, this has been such a unique year with everything going on and more than anything we are excited about the opportunity to play this spring,” Fisher said. “We are looking forward to taking the field for the first time in over a year this coming weekend and seeing our guys back in action.”

In addition, a pair of seniors, Chris Hervada (Haverford School) and Rudy Beck were each honored with a spot on the Preseason All-MAAC Team. Beck and Hervada were each first team selections in 2019 and preseason choices last year.

“Our staff cannot say enough positive things about both Chris and Rudy and the leadership they have displayed this year,” Fisher added. “Given their track record we have high expectations for them this season and were glad to see that they were recognized on the preseason conference team.”

Monmouth begins its 2021 season on Saturday when it hosts Manhattan at 11 a.m. at Kessler Stadium.
