From Press Release
The Arcadia University men’s lacrosse team opened its 2021 season today with a 13-7 victory over visiting Hood marking the first career win for first-year head coach Paul Mita (Conestoga, Villanova).
Clo Muscara paced the offense with four goals and Brian Albersten added three of his own as the Knights had seven different goal-scorers in the effort.
The Knights’ defensive unit turned in a solid performance, limiting Hood to only one second half goal while goalie Timmy Fyock picked up where he left off last season with 21 saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Hood opened the scoring just under four minutes in to the season-opener, but the Knight offense quickly rallied back with three-straight scores within two minutes of each other – one each from Albertsen, Muscara, and Brady Manion (New Egypt, NJ). Adam Adamczyk capped the opening quarter with his first career goal with 23 seconds left in the period after Wesley Sporer (Moorestown) found the first-year in front of the net to give the Knights a 5-3 lead.
-The Blazers answered back with two-straight scores of their own to tie the game at five in the opening minutes of the second, but Muscara’s third goal shortly followed before Jack Rogers intercepted a pass in stride in the midfield and took it all the way in for his first career score to vault the Knights to a 7-5 lead heading into halftime.
-Arcadia kept its high-powered offense rolling into the second half with three unanswered goals from Albertsen, Muscara, and Rogers to make it a five-score advantage while the Knight defense locked in to limit the Blazers to one score in the quarter while Fyock made eight saves – the most of any quarter on the day.
-The Knights put the game out of reach in the fourth as Sporer and James Barretta (Downingtown East) both found the back of the net for their first tallies of the season. The Arcadia defensive unit kept Hood off the board for the final 19:57 of the game in the season-opening, 13-6 victory.
