Kennett stifles Downingtown West, 8-3; takes over first place in Ches-Mont League

Zach Hulme had three goals and an assist and Kennett used a suffocating defense to spark a 5-1 second-half surge en route to an 8-3 win over host Downingtown West Thursday in a showdown of unbeaten Ches-Mont League teams.

The Blue Demons (13-0) take over sole possession of first place in the Ches-Mont with an 11-0 mark and can finish off their first league championship with a win over visiting Downingtown East (9-1) on Tuesday.

The Whippets are 13-3 overall and 9-1 in the league.

Jake Freeberry had two goals and three assists while Richie Hughson won 11 of 15 faceoffs and strong defense was turned in by Vince Cresci, Connor Jung, Gray McManus, Luke Good, and Buzz Hertz.

Luke Venzie led Downingtown West with two goals.
