Girls’ lacrosse: Cardinal O’Hara dumps Springfield-Delco, 10-5, with strong second half

Mackenzie Hand made 12 saves and Rachel Familetti (Pitt commit) collected three goals and an assist as Cardinal O’Hara defeated host Springfield-Delco, 10-5 today in non-league girls’ action.

O’Hara (1-0) trailed 2-0 in the first half but tied it before intermission and used balanced scoring and strong defense from Ana Ciminera (Temple), Em Camuti (La Salle), Kristen Kutufaris and Maddy Sharkey and freshman Lily Marquis to deal the defending PIAA Class AA champions a loss in their season opener.

Junior midfielder Mia Scarduzio (Catholic) added two goals and one assist for Cardinal O’Hara while Lexi Culp (Temple) had two goals, Ellie Miller one goal and three assists, Claire Natoli one goal and one assist and Kellie McCarthy one goal.

“The team stepped up and learned how to win, had each other’s backs, exploited their strengths and depended on one another for a balanced and forceful true team win,” said O’Hara coach Jen Duckenfield.

Erin DeStefano led 11th-ranked Springfield-Delco with two goals.
