Monmouth senior Chris Hervada (Haverford School) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Co-Defensive Player of the Year.
Hervada also was voted to the All-MAAC First Team, while Matt Soutar (Lenape) and Dillon Smart (Garnet Valley) secured Second Team honors for Monmouth.
Hervada earned All-MAAC First Team honors on defense for the second time in his career. The senior started every game on defense for the Hawks and picked up 20 ground balls to go along with 10 caused turnovers. As a team, Monmouth ranks third in the nation in scoring defense by allowing 7.86 goals per game.
Soutar was voted the All-MAAC Second Team Faceoff Specialist after an outstanding sophomore season at the faceoff X. He ranked seventh in the country in faceoff winning percentage (69.6 percent) after winning 96-of-138 faceoffs and 22nd in ground balls per game (6.57).
Joining Soutar on the All-MAAC Second Team was Smart, who was selected at the long stick midfielder position. The fifth-year senior picked up a career-high 32 ground balls and tied Hervada for the team lead with 10 caused turnovers. Smart’s recognition was the first All-MAAC honor of his career.
Also, Manhattan’s Kyle Gucwa (Bishop Shanahan) was a Second-Team pick at attack.
