The West Chester University’s women’s lacrosse squad was ranked first in the nation in today’s Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Poll that was released Monday.
The Golden Rams have not yet stepped on the field in 2020, but did move up one notch in the poll as a result of a loss by Adelphi, the No. 1 ranked team in the country. LeMoyne, which also has yet to play a game in 2020, was ranked second in the latest poll with Adelphi slipping to No. 3.
West Chester is ranked first in the nation for the first time since April of 2009. The laxsters are the third West Chester team to ascend to the top spot in the polls during the regular season. Both the field hockey team, which won the national championship, and the men’s soccer teams were No. 1 for at least one week during the regular season in the fall.
West Chester opens the 2020 campaign on Friday, March 6 against Georgian Court at Vonnie Gros Field at 3 p.m.
