4/24/08 – Girls’ roundup: Villa Maria Academy defeats Merion Mercy again

One of Villa Maria Academy’s top goals in 2008 was to avenge its three losses last year to Merion Mercy.

Wednesday the Hurricanes completed a sweep of their regular-season games against the host Bears by claiming a hard-fought 13-11 Catholic Academies League (CAL) victory.
The win moved Villa Maria to 7-0 in the CAL and 9-1 overall. Merion Mercy, which won both regular-season meetings and the league title game over Villa last year, fell to 7-2 in the league and 8-2 overall.
“This is a huge win for us,” said Villa Maria sophomore Chelsea Fay, who contributed four goals.
Merion Mercy had battled back from an 8-4 halftime deficit to tie it, 11-11, on a goal by Theresa Testa with 4 minutes, 23 seconds left in the game. But Jordan Christopher tallied the game-winner just 18 seconds later and added an insurance goal with just under two minuets to play.
4/24/09 – Girls’ wrap: Conestoga defeats Harriton in OT, 11-10; Panthers, Raiders, Cougars, Fords claim wins

Taylor Mallory had five goals, including the game-winner in the second overtime, as Conestoga defeated Harriton, 11-10, Thursday in Central League girls’ lacrosse action.
Kaitlin Hildebrand added three goals and two assists for the Pioneers (5-3, 4-1).
Jessica Schwab led the Rams (9-4, 3-4) with four goals.
4/24/10 – Friday’s scholastic girls’ roundup: Purvis scores 200th and leads Hatters past Souderton

Hatboro-Horsham senior Lauren Purvis scored her 200th career goal Friday and finished with four tallies and two assists in helping the host Hatters defeat Souderton, 15-12, in Suburban One Continental Conference girls’ lacrosse.
Purvis, who will play Penn State next year, tallied her 200th 10 seconds into play. Kristen O’Brien, Nicole Beck, Nicole Beck, Sarah Tustin, Lizzie Carr and Cortnee Daley each added two goals for the Hatters (4-2, 3-1).
Danielle Notvest had four goals and an assist for Souderton while Lindsay Walbrandt had three goals and two assists and Carly Kendall had three goals and one assist.
Springside School 13, Penn Charter 12
Libbie Maine (four goals, one assist) scored with 12 seconds to play off a feed from Nicole Lombardo to give Springside an upset win over the Quakers.
4/24/12 – Girls’ lacrosse: Episcopal Academy deals Notre Dame, 13-12 triple overtime loss in another chapter to heated Inter-Ac rivalry
MC Curran scored the game-winner in the third overtime period today as host Episcopal Academy earned a 13-12 victory over Notre Dame in the latest chapter of the Inter-Ac League’s top rivalry.
Seven-time league champion EA has defeated Notre Dame five consecutive times by one goal; the game before that was a one-goal win by Notre Dame. This loss was the first of the year for the Fighting Irish (8-1, 4-1), while EA (7-4, 5-0) moves into first place.
“I could not have been more proud of my team,” said EA first-year coach Amanda Vos Strache. We executed our game plan to perfection.
“Our defense really stepped up against their top players and our attack stayed poised in the offense. We truly played a full team effort and that really helped us gain the win today.”
4/24/13 – Women’s lacrosse: PSU Abington wins 2nd in row; Haverford edges Ursinus

Nichole Hayes (Archbishop Wood) broke the program’s record for most goals scored in a game, pumping in nine, to lead Penn State Abington women’s lacrosse team to its second straight win with a 18-10 victory at Wilson College Wednesday Afternoon.
Tori Kimberly (Central Bucks West) scored a career-high eight goals in the game, while Katelyn Kelly (Bishop McDevitt) was responsible for Abington’s other goal in the win.
Playing with just 11 bodies on the field to start the game, the Nittany Lions (2-12, 2-5 NEAC) out hustled the Phoenix throughout the entire game. Hayes opened the first half scoring three unanswered goals in just seven minutes into the opening half for the 3-0 Abington lead, before Wilson’s Jess Menard responded with a hat-trick of her own in just less than four minutes to tie up the game with 18:58 to play.
4/24/14 – Girls’ lacrosse: Agnes Irwin downs Episcopal Academy, 13-11, to force tie atop Inter-Ac

Hannah Keating had four goals and Bridget Chakey added three goals and two assists as host Agnes Irwin earned a key 13-11 Inter-Ac League victory over Episcopal Academy today.
But this was a game that featured many contributions beyond the Owls’ top scorers as Agnes Irwin (12-1) forged a tie atop the Inter-Ac League with EA (ranked No. 2 by Phillylacrosse.com) at 5-1.
For several weeks Agnes Irwin (ranked No. 11) has been playing without two of its standout sophomores, Laura Pansini (Princeton commit, out for season with knee injury) and Kristin Burnetta (Harvard commit, out for season with ankle injury). But several more young players have made key contributions.
4/24/16 – O’Brien sparks @GarnetGLax to victory over EA at @KSFLaxFest

Madi O’Brien scored four goals to lead Garnet Valley to a 12-9 victory Saturday afternoon in the 16th annual Katie Samson Foundation Festival at Radnor High School.
“Madi comes up huge in big games,” Jaguars coach Jenny Purvis said. “She has an incredible explosion towards the net.”
Emily Mathewson contributed two goals and four assists for the third-ranked Jaguars (10-1), who scored four of the final six goals to preserve their victory. Riley Delaney and Camryn Faith each added two goals.
“This was a good, competitive game,” Purvis said. “Lacrosse is the most fun game around on two feet, and it’s even more fun when you win.”
