The Philadelphia Barrage picked up their second win of the 2020 MLL Season and kept their playoff hopes alive after the game’s final four goals and defeating the New York Lizards, 12-11, today in a gritty win.
Colin Minicus scored the game-winning goal with 1:22 left to propel the Barrage to the win.
“We’re just excited we got that win,” Minicus said. “A lot of guys came up big in that third and fourth quarter.”
In a defensive first quarter, the first goal was scored by Kyle Marr within the first three minutes, putting Philadelphia up 1-0. The Lizards responded immediately with a strike from Dylan Molloy a mere six seconds later, tying the game at one.
Despite the quick start, scoring quickly stalled, and the score at the end of the first quarter was 3-2 with New York on top.
A low-scoring first quarter preceded an even lighter second, as the teams had a combined total of three goals. Philadelphia’s only goal was from Mark Matthews with 5:07 to go in the quarter.
After the first half, the Barrage trailed 5-3.
Philadelphia netted six goals in the final 13 minutes of play, while New York was held to only one goal by the Barrage defense.
Tyson Gibson led the Philly with three goals on seven shots.
“We had a slow start just as a team overall,” Gibson said. “We said to ourselves, “Hey 30 minutes left, if we don’t win, we’re not in.” We dug deep, and we’re proud of all our guys. We worked hard and got the dub.”
The Barrage’s playoff future is now dependent on the outcome of the Connecticut Hammerheads’ and Boston Cannons’ final two games.
