As the collegiate practice season open this week for many Division I teams, Philly men’s lacrosse followers can gear for the Philly 4 Lacrosse Classic on March 6 (Friday) and 8 (Sunday).
The event, being held for the second year, features the four men’s D1 teams (Drexel, Penn, St. Joseph’s, Villanova) located in or just outside the city limits. Games will be held at two locations, Penn’s Franklin Field and St. Joseph’s Sweeney Field.
On March 6, Drexel and St. Joe’s meet at 5 p.m. and Penn squares off with Villanova at 7:30 p.m. Sunday’s games will start with Drexel facing Villanova at noon; St. Joe’s and Penn meet at 2:30 p.m.
“It’s a really cool thing we have going with the Philly 4 Lacrosse Classic,” said St. Joe’s coach Taylor Wray. “There is really nothing else like this in D-I lacrosse: four local teams, competing back-to-back, on two separate occasions, in the same weekend.
“If you are part of the Philly lacrosse community, this is going to be the biggest event of the spring. We are looking forward to hosting here at SJU, and I hope our fans will come out in droves to support the event.”
