From Press Release
With 36 total votes, including six of the poll’s seven first place votes, the Cabrini men’s lacrosse team is expected to earn its 20th consecutive conference championship.
The league’s coaches have installed the Cavaliers and the Atlantic East Conference preseason favorite, according to the poll released today.
The Blue and White extended its NCAA record conference win streak to 121 games after going 6-0 in league play last season, before topping Gwynedd Mercy 21-6 in the 2019 Atlantic East championship game.
The Griffins secured the poll’s second spot with 29 points, including the remaining first place vote, earning a slight advantage over Marymount with 28 votes.
Marywood’s 19 points were good for a one point advantage over Neumann for fourth, while Wesley and Immaculata closed out the poll with 10 and seven points, respectively.
Fresh off the program’s first national championship victory, head coach Steve Colfer boasts a deep and talented roster of players looking to replicate last season’s success.
Colfer will look to senior Tommy DeLuca, 2019 IMLCA Defensive Player of the Year, to anchor a defensive unit that surrendered just 6.83 goals per game in 2019.
Returning All-Americans Bobby Cressman and Kyle Myers will control the midfield, after the senior midfielders combined for 97 ground balls and 41 caused turnovers in 2019.
Offensively, the Cavaliers will lean on seniors Jake Klein and Ty Kostack, both of whom earned All-America honors a season ago after combining for nearly 130 points.
Cabrini will begin its quest for a 20th consecutive conference championship on Feb. 15, when it visits Haverford College. The opening faceoff is slated for 11:30am.
