Women’s roundup: Neumann wins in OT; Cabrini, Swarthmore roll

The Neumann University women’s lacrosse team won its third consecutive contest on Thursday afternoon, taking down host Alvernia University in overtime, 15-14, in non-conference action.

Brittany Cassidy (Sun Valley) was the offensive force in the win for Neumann, recording five goals and an assist for six points on the day. Kaitlyn Conrad (Penncrest) also added five points (3 g, 2 a) while Brylin Adams – who had the game-winner – Reilly Fiedler (Great Valley) and Courtney Petrucelli (Pottsgrove) each tallied twice. Catriona Corrigan (Bonner Prendergast) continued her stellar play in goal with 12 saves.

Cabrini 20, Widener 9

The Cavaliers found their offensive rhythm in the early going and never looked back, as they rolled over Widener at Edith Robb Dixon Field.

Seven Cavaliers marked the scoring column tonight, led by senior Avery Murphy (Archbishop Carroll) and freshman Dana Carlson (Springfield-Delco), who combined for 17 points in the victory.

Murphy paired four goals and five assists to go with five caused turnovers, four draw controls and three ground balls. Carlson added a season high seven goals, each coming in the first half, and six draw controls.

Sophomore Ashley Tutzauer added three goals and two helpers, two draw controls and two caused turnovers. Junior Lauren Hughes (Methacton) and sophomore Taylor Dimmerling (Berks Catholic) also chipped in with two goals.

Swarthmore 17, Piedmont 7

The Garnet continued its perfect start to the 2019 season with a rout over Piedmont in Clearwater, FL.

Senior attack Elizabeth Wainwright (St. Andrew’s School, DE) and sophomore Mackenzie Frost led Swarthmore with three goals each. Kathryn Restrepo (Strath Haven), Sophie Peipher (Tower Hill, DE) and Eleanor Miller each scored a pair of goals.

Tess Wild (Archbishop Wood), Kacy Hafertepe (Strath Haven), Megan Jones, Ashley Pyon (Garnet Valley) and Mia Capozzoli scored a goal as well.

Restrepo dealt out a game-high three assists.

Wild gathered four draw controls, and Miller and Peipher each had three.

The Garnet tallied 13 goals in the first half to build a 13-1 lead.
