Saint Joseph’s sophomore midfielder Nick Vernacchio (Upper Dublin) has been selected onto the 2019 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men’s Lacrosse Team, which is voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
To be eligible, student-athletes must excel both on the field and in the classroom and maintain a cumulative academic GPA of 3.20 or greater.
Vernacchio led all SJU midfielders in points (22), goals (12), and assists (10) to rank third on the squad in all three offensive categories this spring. Against Philadelphia competition, Vernacchio went for one goal, one assist, one ground ball, one caused turnover, and zero turnovers against Drexel and hit the back of the net twice against Penn.
The Dresher native also recorded a hat trick against St. Bonaventure, went for four points in wins over Fairfield (1g, 3a) and Monmouth (2g, 2a), and totaled three points (1g, 2a) to go with three ground balls against Bryant. Vernacchio also scored against Delaware and Mount St. Mary’s and scrapped for three ground balls against Robert Morris.
Vernacchio was a team captain (an academic junior, finance major) as a redshirt sophmlore.
