The HEADstrong Lacrosse Club is excited to announce its 2019 Summer Camp Series, with two camps located in Swedesboro and Lower Township, N.J. Aimed toward any lacrosse player looking to elevate his or her game, these camps will also provide a platform for each athlete to be empowered to make a difference in their communities through their experiences.
“Our Nick aspired to be an educator, coach, and counselor, and that burning desire to positively influence the community was only heightened during his battle with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma,” said Cheryl Colleluori, President of the HEADstrong Foundation and Nick’s mom.
“That was the driving force behind him inspiring athletes around the country with the HEADstrong Foundation. Our summer camp series is a tremendous way to share the invaluable lessons that he taught us both on and off the field. Our staff not only played at the highest levels, but like Nick, believe that giving back to the community is one of the most important things in life. These camps allow HEADstrong to help those who are dealing with the same hardships and realities of cancer that we went through with Nick.”
HEADstrong will host the following camps (links to register and more information can be found below):
Swedesboro: June 24-28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Locke Avenue Park (58 Locke Avenue; ages 7-15 only).
Lower Township: July 15-18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Freeman S. Douglas Jr. Memorial Park (676 Route 9).
The experience of the HEADstrong camps are shaped by the outstanding and dedicated staff, led by camp director, HEADstrong Foundation Vice President and Nick’s brother Michael Colleluori. Garnering CAA Rookie of the Year honors during his freshman campaign, Michael Colleluori was an All-American at Hofstra and went on to play professionally after his collegiate career.
HEADstrong Lacrosse camps aim to elevate each athlete’s game, whether they’re new to the sport or more experienced. A 10-to-1 camper-to-counselor ratio gives players individualized attention and a higher amount of quality reps while also focusing on individual, group and team lacrosse skills in a positive, high energy atmosphere.
Players will learn the fundamentals of dodging, passing, catching, shooting, individual defense, goalie play and face-off technique. Athletes will also learn team offense, defense, riding, clearing and transition play. There will be appearances from current and former college and professional players, and campers will receive a limited edition HEADstrong tank top, HEADstrong shoelaces, a HEADstrong lanyard, and a HEADstrong sticker, with the opportunity to win even more prizes.
Proceeds from the camp will support the HEADstrong Foundation’s Nick’s House, a family home in Swarthmore, Pa., that provides complimentary lodging to families seeking cancer treatment in the region.
