Penn*Lax All-Stars, PA’s elite box lacrosse training and travel teams for boys, is excited to announce it is launching a girls’ only box program.
Part of the PennLax philosophy is that true box lacrosse when played correctly, is both a blast to play but also a tremendous training tool for outdoor success. PennLax has had a large part in launching box lacrosse training and competition in the area which is now hugely popular. It has are now aiming to do the same for the girls in the Philly area.
Girls playing box lacrosse is not a new concept. It is regularly played in Canada and has already made its way to the US. Click here for an article on the girls’ box game.
“We’ve had the pleasure of witnessing some girls box teams from out of state compete in our boys box tournaments,” said Director of Penn*Lax Operations Matt McCormick . “Seeing girls’-only teams not only hold their own but often times beat boys teams has been inspiring to see. It has been a motivating factor for us starting the Penn*Lax girls program.”
Playing in smaller spaces, more physical, having to make quick decisions, shooting on smaller nets with bigger goalies are all aspects of box lacrosse that accelerate development and the FUN of the sport.
In order to receive all of the benefits that box lacrosse can offer, elite training is required and PennLax will provide this for the girls side the same as they do for the boys. PennLax men’s coaches Holmes, Matt McCormick, Tom Slate, and Kevin Crowley will be heading up the girls teams along with recent hire, former Northwestern star and current pro Colleen Magarity.
PennLax is highly encouraging local female candidates to join the PennLax staff, learn the box game and ideally lead future teams. Interested candidates please email (firstname.lastname@example.org)
