Lehigh senior attackman Andrew Pettit (Tower Hill, DE), the team’s leading scorer last year, will miss the 2019 season and have surgery for an ACL tear suffered in practice, the school confirmed Saturday. The information was first reported Friday on Inside Lacrosse.
Also, seven other players — including the Mountain Hawks’ No. 2 scorer last year, senior attackman Lucas Spence (Springfield-Delco) — are “out indefinitely” for undisclosed reasons, according to a statement from the school. Also out indefinitely is freshman face-off specialist Mike Sisselberger (Southern Lehigh, Second-Team Phillylacrosse.com pick in 2018).
Pettit led the team in goals (46) and points (66) last season.
Lehigh, picked as the No. 2 team in the Patriot League and a Top 15 squad in the national polls, has lost two straight games. On Friday the Mountain Hawks gave No. 11 Virginia a battle before bowing 11-8, on the road.
The full statement on Pettit and the other players from Lehigh athletics is below:
“Senior attackman, Andrew Pettit, will miss the 2019 season due to a torn ACL. The injury occurred in a preseason practice and past weeks have been spent exhausting all alternative options through several orthopedic surgeons. After gathering all medical advice and information, the decision was made by Andrew and his family that surgery is the best and safest option. We sympathize with Andrew and will do our best to support him and his family every step of the way. Andrew’s future is yet to be decided, but a return to Lehigh for a fifth year remains a possibility as he explores his academic and career aspirations, including playing professionally.”
Seven other players are listed as “out indefinitely for undisclosed reasons.”
