From Press Release
Four high-scoring, spirited scrimmages, remembering HEADstrong Foundation founder and Ridley High grad Nicholas Colleluori and honoring student-athletes who are carrying on his relentless legacy highlighted the 2019 HEADstrong Foundation Nicholas Colleuori Long Island Classic at Hofstra University’s James M. Shuart Stadium on Saturday, October 5.
The four-team field featured Hofstra, Navy, Lehigh and Marist. Navy and Marist opened the day of lacrosse scrimmages followed by a battle between the Hofstra Pride and the Midshipmen from Navy.
The HEADstrong Foundation’s presentation, to the teams and spectators by Nick Colleluori’s mother and President of the Foundation, Cheryl Colleluori, brought the focus back to Nick’s legacy. Each team also had its Nick Colleluori Tribute Award winner introduced and recognized. Each student-athlete will wear number 27, Nick’s number at Hofstra. Pride midfielder Ryan Kinnard is Hofstra’s 2020 Colleluori Tribute Award recipient.
After the presentation, Hofstra Head Lacrosse Coach Seth Tierney and the Pride team presented Mrs. Colleluori with a stored-away jersey worn by Nick as a player at Hofstra in 2005 in an emotional locker room presentation.
Two scrimmages featuring Lehigh against Marist and Hofstra against Lehigh wrapped up the great day of lacrosse for a great cause.
